What is here

At this gym you can enjoy an accessible swim.
|There are 2 pools – the main pool is for lane swimming, the smaller pool is warmest and used for disability groups.
The pools are accessible for wheelchair users – they both have fixed hoists.
You can use a mobile hoist for the pools, toilets or changing rooms.
The pool changing rooms have adjustable change-beds.
There are always trained life guards watching the pools.
If you want you can have swimming lessons on your own or with a group.
You can do weight training here or an aerobic work-out.
You can join a Disability Sport class.
If you or your group would like to try one of these sports – contact the centre for more information.
If you like what you try and want to use the centre more you can get membership for a year. To do this you need to book an induction with a personal trainer. This means they help you work out what exercises are good for you to do.
The staff can support you to fill in forms.
You can hire the centre for parties and family gatherings. There is also a café, bar, aerobics studio and crèche. Hornchurch Sports Centre is a non-smoking area.

Parking
There are many parking spaces at the Hornchurch Sports centre.
There are 5 accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities – they are outside the entrance.
Bus
165, 193, 248, 265 and 372 are the nearest buses.
Tube
(District line) – Hornchurch underground station is about 2100 metres (too far to walk!) from Hornchurch Sports Centre. The underground station is not accessible for wheelchair users.
Overground Rail Station
Emerson Park mainline station is about 1675 metres from Hornchurch Sports centre.Emerson Park mainline station is accessible for wheelchair users.

The way through the main entrance is flat through automatic doors.
Getting around inside
There are 2 main floors, the Ground floor and Floor 1.
The smallest doorway inside is about 765 mm wide (the ground floor accessible toilet).
Ground floor
Reception has an accessible counter – it is 765 mm high.There is a café where you can buy drinks, snacks and meals. There is also a bar and vending machines.
The swimming pools are on the ground floor. There is accessible toilet and changing room here.
There are two lifts. Staff can support you if you want. The doorway is about 800 mm wide.
Floor 1
The gym and function hall are here. There is accessible toilet and changing room here.
Changing rooms
There is an accessible changing room on both floors. (The biggest accessible changing room is on Floor 1).
They have adjustable change-beds. They also have a fold-down seat, a baby-change and lockers (tokens cost 25p).
There is also a Men’s and Ladies changing rooms on both floors.
Accessible toilets
There is an accessible toilet on the ground floor by the main pool.
They have hand rails.
The toilet is locked – the radar key is at the reception.
Support
The staff were really friendly and helpful on our visit. The full-time staff have had disability awareness training.
There are always 3 or 4 staff members who have first aid training.
There is a fixed hoist for the pools and a mobile hoist.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome.
