What is here

At the Rec you can do weight training, play squash, basketball, badminton, football or uni-hoc.
There’s a swimming pool, a gym, workout machines, bowls and climbing wall. And when you want to relax after all that exercise you can use the sauna or solarium, go the café or the bar!
There s also a crèche and telephones (with an accessible height) that use coins on Level 3. There is a photo booth.
It’s best to phone up and book for the activity you want to do.

The Brixton Rec is a local landmark.
Parking There is no designated accessible parking spaces at the Brixton Rec.
Bus
2, 3, 35, 37, 45, 59, 109, 118, 133, 159, 196, 333 and 432 are the nearest buses.
N3, N133, N159 are the nearest night buses.
Tube
(Victoria line) – Brixton underground station is about 240 metres from the Brixton Rec.
The underground station is not accessible for wheelchair users.
British Rail
Brixton mainline station is next door to the Brixton Rec.

Access from outside

The main entrance is reached from the road up 2 flights of steps and it has large double doors which are not automatic.If you use a wheelchair there is a long ramp on your left just before you reach the main entrance. The ramp is enclosed and quite dark. When you get inside staff at reception will show how to get into the centre as you can’t get through the gates in a wheelchair.

Getting around inside

The Rec is on 6 levels, and all these are reached by the 2 lifts, except for the area with the cardio workout machines (on level 6) which is only reached by stairs.The lifts have doors which are 1000 mm wide.
Floor 1
This is where the reception is.There are accessible toilets for men and women, the outside door is 780 mm wide and they have handrails.
Floor 2
The toilets on this level are not accessible.
Floor 3
Here you will find the main changing rooms for the swimming pool.The female changing rooms have an accessible toilet with a 750mm wide door.
There is an disabled shower room and 2 disabled changing rooms, you need to ask for the key at reception for these.
The male changing rooms have 2 disabled changing rooms and I disabled toilet.
Floor 4
Here you will find the saunas, there is a small step to get in, and bench seating inside.The solarium is up steps.
Floor 5
Here you will find the female toilets. The doors are 750mm wide, they have handrails.The male toilets have door widths of 750 mm and no hand rails.
Floor 6
Here you will find male and female toilets and changing rooms.
Accessible toilets There are accessible toilets on floors 1 and 3.They are not locked.They do have hand rails.

Support

The staff were really friendly and helpful on our visit.There are always members of staff who have first aid training.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome.
