Access and attitude
About us
We have a dedicated and varied in-house skill-set, bringing together knowledge of different sectors and approaches, enabling us to think laterally about all work we undertake.
Enabled London aims to raise awareness, inform and inspire people with disabilities to take an active part in their communities and enhance social inclusion. www.enabledlondon.com began in 2002, as a resource for people with mobility impairments. We met a lot of people with learning disabilities, who told us how other factors were just as important in improving access for themselves and everyone. Since we began, we have been aware of the varied barriers to accessing information – in particular for people with learning disabilities – and have been working with larger organisations to highlight the issues and offer practical solutions. Our consultancy services and accessibility tools have taken many years to develop, like Word-Bank and Enabled Maps, but are now being used by other organisations on their websites to broadcast their messages clearly to the widest possible audience.
Friday was a real eye opener for me. I’ve never seen such genuine consultation with people with learning disabilities before, and was hugely impressed by the way you winkled out people’s hopes and wishes.
