You can see the Barriers from inside the cafe or outside on picnic tables and chairs. The tables and chairs are not fixed to the floor.
The information centre tells you about the history of the Thames Barriers and our environment.
You can watch a short movie about the Thames Barriers and learn about plants and wildlife in the Thames.

Opening
hours
You can visit the Thames Barrier 7 days a week.
In April, May, June, July, August and September,
the Thames Barrier opens at 10.30 am and closes at 4.00 pm everyday.
The latest time you can arrive to look around is 3.45 pm.
In October, November, December, January, February and March,
the Thames Barrier opens at 10.30 am and closes at 3.30 pm everyday.
The latest time you can arrive to look around is 3.15 pm.

Getting in:
It costs £1.00 to get into the Thames Barrier Information centre,
But,
If you are an older adult (over 60 years old),
it costs 75p to get into the Thames Barrier Information centre.
If you are 16 years old or less,
it costs 50p to get into the Thames Barrier Information centre.
Food:
The cafe has well priced food.
You can buy a pot of tea and a cake for about £1.50,
or a jacket potato with filling for about £2.75.

Parking
The car parking spaces cost £1.00 to use.
There are 5 accessible parking spaces reserved for people with disabilities.
Coaches can park for free but only if they are visiting the information centre.

Bus
161, 177, 180 and 472 are the nearest accessible buses.
N1 is the nearest fully accessible night bus.
They go along Woolwich Road near to the Thames Barrier.

Tube
Jubilee Line) - North Greenwich underground station is about 2000 meters from the Thames Barrier.
You need to go along the Thames footpath or catch the 161 or 422 bus.
North Greenwich underground station is accessible for people using wheelchairs.
DLR
Greenwich DLR station is accessible for a person using a wheelchair.
From the station you need to take the 177 bus to the roundabout of Woolwich Road and Westmoor Road.
From here it is a short journey to the Thames Barrier.
River Taxi
River taxis go every hour from Westminster Pier, St Katherine's Pier or Greenwich Pier.
If you want to go by River taxi it costs:
£7.50 for a one-way journey OR,
£9.00 for a return journey from Westminster Pier.
The journey is about 65 minutes long.
You need to call 0207 930 4097 to book the journey.

British Rail
Charlton mainline station is about 1400 meters from the Thames Barrier.
The mainline station is accessible for people using wheelchairs.
You will then need to cross busy roads to get to the Thames Barrier.

Access from outside
To enter the Café or Information centre you need to use the steps on the left,
OR
there is a lift on the right-hand side of the picnic area.
(This is also where the disabled toilet is)
The lift is a service lift and kept locked.
The doorway is very heavy - if you need to use it you will need to call the Information centre to get them to support you - phone 0208 305 4188.
The doorway to the Café is flat and 1540 mm wide.
The pathways and picnic areas are very roomy and there is outdoor seating for wheelchair users.

inside
TThe Thames Barrier Information centre is on street level.
The Cafe is on the upper level.
There is plenty of room to move around inside the café.
Chairs and tables are not fixed to the floor.
If you need table service the staff are happy to help.

Accessible toilets
The unisex toilet is fully accessible.
The doorway is 875 mm wide.
It is on the right-hand side of the picnic area.
The door is kept locked - the key is in the cafe (on the floor above).

The staff are friendly and helpful.
Registered assistance dogs are welcome.
The Information centre has information in large print, audio cassette and Braille. If you need to have translation into another language please contact the Information centre.
